Mail Order

As the primary Rx supplier to a growing percentage of U.S. patients, mail order pharmacies have increasing responsibility to ensure patient safety. This means ensuring the drugs delivered and dispensed have had a secure chain of custody to reduce the likelihood of receiving drug products that are counterfeit or diverted.

Mail order pharmacies need a Product Security solution {link to Product Security Section} today that

  • Uses future-proof technology and complies with industry standards
  • Facilitates precise recalls
  • Enables rapid returns and reconciliations

Pedigree Impacts for Mail Order Pharmacies

Patient safety concerns about counterfeit drugs have caused state and federal regulators to enact pedigree requirements.

The pedigree regulations change business practices of mail order pharmacies and other end-points in several ways, such as:

  • End-points can't receive a drug without a pedigree, in many states
  • Mail order and other end-points can't sell a drug at wholesale without a pedigree (such as selling to another pharmacy facility outside your corporation)
  • Returns require pedigree updates in several states
  • A drug return must be documented on the same pedigree received when the pharmacy received the drug, in California

States vary in specific pedigree requirements, so we recommend that you contact your local Board of Pharmacy or Department of Health regulator for specific instructions.
