Independent Pharmacies
Segment Overview and Key Considerations
Independent pharmacies are a key force in delivering quality care to customers. Even though they're faced with increased competition due to acquisitions of independent stores by large retail chains as well as mail order, 42% of all prescriptions in the U.S. are filled by independent pharmacists who provide essential services that are difficult for large retail chain stores to deliver.
Independent pharmacists succeed by providing high-touch, individualized services to customers:
- Providing a vital link between the consumer, the drug manufacturer and the physician. Customer education on Part D plans, disease management, and patient safety leaves little time or money to focus on pedigree requirements for drugs received and/or returned.
- Ensuring a reliable drug inventory that customers rely on. This requires stocking sufficient inventory to have the right drug at the right time, even for unexpected demands.
Time is limited for an independent pharmacist, and many rely on their upstream suppliers and trading partners to provide solutions for compliance and business improvement. SupplyScape is on the forefront of these network-based solutions enabling better communication and synchronization across the Pharma value chain.
Cost-Effective Approaches for Independent Pharmacists
To address these challenges, SupplyScape has enabled independent pharmacies to cost-effectively provide secure drugs to their customers, comply with pedigree regulations, take advantage of new track and trace capabilities, and by working with companies who supply independent pharmacies to provide web-based solutions that are secure, reliable and easy to use.
Pedigree Portal
We work with the wholesale distributors to provide electronic pedigree portals, which enable secure access of pedigrees for your drugs over the Web. As an independent pharmacy using the pedigree portal, you can locate, examine and print the pedigree for a drug whenever needed, such as during an inspection or for a return.
Drug Authentication
We work with pharmaceutical manufacturers to provide online drug identification authentication service. By verifying the serial number of a drug bottle through the PS-Authentication service, you're confirming the manufacturer assigned to that drug bottle the serial identifier (ID), or Electronic Product Code (EPC). PS-Authentication provides useful information about the state of a drug such as whether it is OK to dispense, or was stolen or recalled. Today pharmacists can authenticate several drug products, including Viagra®, using PS-Authentication capabilities.
